Beignets on the Brain

There's a new place here in Fort Worth that some friends recommended where you can get beignets. It's a restaurant called Crescent City. For those of you who don't know, beignets are square, donut-like, puffed pastries coated with powdered sugar that taste really, really good! Just ask anyone who's been to New Orleans.

Jodie and I haven't had beignets since our honeymoon in New Orleans. On our honeymoon we ate at several excellent places around town and enjoyed great food each day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But we always returned to Cafe Du Monde at some point every day for beignets—every day except for one: Christmas (and that's only because they were closed then). We just couldn't resist those little, sugary temptations. They are that good!

So with great enthusiasm, albeit sidetracked initially by some mistaken directions, we found this new place that offered a tasty reminder of our palate-pleasing times in New Orleans. After enjoying a baker's dozen we decided their beignets are very good. Perhaps not as light and fluffy as what we remembered; nonetheless, we were definitely satisfied. Jodie summed it up best when she said as we left Crescent City, "We'll be coming back here again."

She's right... I'm still thinking about how good those beignets are!
